Back to Jesus: The Way Home
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28
There are some songs that don't just play through your speakers—they settle deep into your soul. Matthew West's Back to Jesus is one of those songs. Every time I hear it, I'm reminded that the Christian life was never meant to be about striving harder, doing more, or proving ourselves worthy. It has always been about one simple invitation: come back to Jesus.
Life has a way of pulling us in a hundred different directions. We chase accomplishments, fill our calendars, compare ourselves to others, and try to carry burdens we were never designed to bear. Even as believers, we can slowly drift from the very One who gives us life. Not because we stop loving Him, but because the noise of everyday life becomes louder than His gentle voice.
The beautiful truth is that Jesus never moves.
He's still waiting with open arms, not with disappointment, but with compassion. He isn't asking us to clean ourselves up before we come. He simply says, "Come."
I love the story of the prodigal son because it reminds us of God's heart. The son rehearsed a speech, expecting rejection, yet before he could finish his apology, his father was already running toward him. That's the heart of our Heavenly Father. We may feel like we've wandered too far, but grace always runs farther.
Maybe your "back to Jesus" moment isn't dramatic. Maybe it's choosing to open your Bible before scrolling your phone. Maybe it's whispering a prayer while washing dishes. Maybe it's turning worship music on during your morning commute or sitting quietly with your coffee, inviting Him into your day.
Faith is often built in those ordinary moments.
I've learned that a Christ-centered life doesn't require perfection. It requires surrender. Some days that surrender feels strong and confident. Other days it looks like saying, "Lord, I don't have the answers, but I know You do." And somehow, that's enough.
When our hearts return to Jesus, everything else begins to find its proper place. Peace replaces anxiety. Grace quiets guilt. Hope overcomes fear. We begin to remember that our identity isn't found in what we accomplish but in whose we are.
The world will always tell us to try harder.
Jesus simply says, "Follow Me."
If you've been feeling weary, distracted, or distant, let today be your invitation home. You don't have to earn your way back. You don't have to have the perfect prayer. You only have to take one step toward the Savior who has been waiting for you all along.
He isn't counting how far you've wandered.
He's celebrating that you're coming home.
